The short version: we collect the minimum needed to let you save your numbers and come back later. We don't sell your data. Financial figures you enter are self-reported estimates for your own planning — we don't verify or share them with lenders.
1. Who we are
HomeFitIQ (homefitiq.com) is an independently operated financial planning tool, run by an individual (sole proprietor), not a registered company. Throughout this policy, "we," "us," and "HomeFitIQ" refer to the operator of this site. You can reach us at hello@homefitiq.com.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide directly
- Account information: if you create a free account to save your numbers, we collect your email address — via a magic-link sign-in, an email/password combination, or by signing in with your Google account. If you use Google Sign-In, Google shares your email address and basic profile information (like your name) with us to create and identify your account; we don't receive access to your Gmail, Drive, or any other Google data.
- Saved scenario data: if you choose to save a scenario, we store the values you've entered into the calculator and budget planner — home price, income, expenses, and similar figures. This information is self-reported by you for your own planning purposes; we do not verify it against any external source, and it is not shared with lenders, landlords, or any other third party as part of the core service.
- Contact information: if you email us directly (e.g. at hello@homefitiq.com), we'll have whatever information you choose to include in that message.
Information collected automatically
We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used — for example, which pages are visited, general device/browser type, approximate location derived from IP address, and how people move through the calculator. This helps us fix bugs and improve the tool. IP addresses are anonymized before being stored, and we do not use this information to identify you personally.
Information we do not collect
We don't ask for your name, Social Security number, bank account numbers, or any other information that would let us — or anyone else — verify your real-world identity or finances. The numbers you enter are for your own reference.
3. Cookies and similar technologies
HomeFitIQ uses essential cookies/local storage needed for the site and your saved account session to function. If and when we enable analytics or advertising (see Section 6), those services may also set cookies or similar technologies to measure usage or personalize ads. Where required by law, we'll present a consent banner before any non-essential cookies are set, and you'll be able to manage your preferences at that time.
4. How we use your information
- To operate the save/restore feature, so your saved scenarios are tied to your account
- To respond to you if you contact us for support or feedback
- To understand aggregate usage patterns and improve the site
- To detect and prevent abuse of the service
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your saved financial figures for any purpose beyond displaying them back to you.
5. Third parties we work with
We rely on a small number of service providers to run HomeFitIQ:
- Supabase — handles account authentication and stores your saved scenario data on our behalf.
- Google — if you choose to sign in with Google, Google shares your email and basic profile information with us to create your account, per its own privacy policy.
- Netlify — hosts the website itself.
- Google Analytics — collects anonymized usage data (pages visited, general device type, approximate location) so we can understand how the site is used and improve it. This is separate from signing in with Google, and doesn't identify you personally.
- FRED (Federal Reserve Economic Data) — we pull current average mortgage rates from this public data source; no personal information is sent to or received from FRED.
If we add analytics, advertising (such as Google AdSense), or affiliate partnerships in the future, those providers may also receive limited technical information (like your IP address or cookie identifiers) as part of how those services work. We'll update this policy when that happens, and it will describe the specific providers in use.
6. Advertising and affiliate links
HomeFitIQ is currently free to use with no ads or affiliate links live on the site. If we introduce advertising (for example, through Google AdSense) or affiliate links (for example, to mortgage lenders or insurance providers), we will:
- Disclose which providers are involved and update this policy accordingly
- Clearly mark affiliate links as such near where they appear
- Provide cookie consent controls where legally required
We may earn a commission if you click an affiliate link and complete a signup or purchase with that provider — this doesn't affect the numbers HomeFitIQ shows you, and recommendations aren't influenced by which providers pay the highest commission.
7. Data retention
We retain your account and saved scenario data for as long as your account remains active. If you delete a saved scenario, it's removed from our database. If you'd like your account and all associated data deleted entirely, contact us at hello@homefitiq.com and we'll process that request.
8. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction or deletion of that information
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do not sell personal information)
- Withdraw consent for non-essential cookies, where consent was the basis for collecting them
California residents have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and residents of the European Economic Area have specific rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). To exercise any of these rights, email hello@homefitiq.com and we'll respond as required by applicable law.
9. Data security
We use industry-standard practices (including encrypted connections and Supabase's built-in security features) to protect your information. No online service can guarantee perfect security, so we encourage you to use a strong, unique password if you create an account.
10. Children's privacy
HomeFitIQ is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13 (or the relevant minimum age in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, particularly as new features (like analytics or monetization) are added. We'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when changes are made. Continued use of HomeFitIQ after changes take effect means you accept the revised policy.
